The four years I have spent at Florida International University have been nothing short of amazing and memorable. I have gained a world-class education, both theoretical and practical. I can honestly say that I enjoyed my classes thoroughly. I am walking away with a sound knowledge of both the Hospitality and Tourism Industry.
I completed my curricular training at the Ritz Carlton South Beach. I held a relatively simple job position of outdoor dining hostess but I was still able to understand how important all elements are to ensuring an enjoyable guest experience. Every team member really embodied the company’s motto and we all strived to treat every guest as though they were VIP. I have also had the incredible opportunity of working at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival as well as other events such as Share Our Strength fundraisers. All these experiences have helped me to bring the classroom to real life. I was able to apply everything taught at FIU, while strengthening my service skills and making priceless contacts in the industry.
This past semester I completed my internship at the Miami office of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association. I worked with the same Education Foundation which was one of my greatest supporters of my FIU life. This time around I was able to learn first-hand about the Travel and Tourism aspects of the Industry. A great learning experience once again! These two work experiences have been able to introduce me to the major areas of the industry and really solidified in my mind that this is my path. This is definitely the industry for me!
I’ve now graduated (Magna Cum Laude!) from FIU’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, as well as the Honors College. I walked tall and proud across the stage to receive my diploma. It was definitely one of my greatest accomplishments and it was truly a treat to have CHTAEF and Virgin Holidays representatives present. Now, I’m off to complete my OPT and gain more experience in this fantastic field. I cannot wait to see what’s next for me!!
Many, many thanks to the CHTAEF and Virgin Holidays for the continuous support and encouragement over the past three years!
