Camilla George, St. Lucia
St Lucia Golf & Johnson and Wales Scholar 2009
I currently attend the Johnson & Wales North Miami campus. This campus is relatively small thus affording me with more personalized attention from professors and chefs alike. I am known by my name and not a number. I have and am still in the process of learning quite a bit. What I have learned ranges from the importance of time management and punctuality, to how to fillet a fish. I really love this institution and I am very lucky to be able to attend this school.
I am very lucky to have been awarded a scholarship from the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Education Foundation sponsored by the St. Lucia Golf Tournament. This will go a long way in helping me continue my education and gain my Bachelor of Science degree in Culinary Arts. I applied to the CHTA Education Foundation because when I think of scholarships it is at the forefront of my mind. When I was looking at schools to further my education I looked at the list of schools on the CHTAEF website.
During my tenure I have come across people from all over the world as the campus is very culturally diverse. I have had the opportunity to be a part of the International Community at school. Meetings are held twice a month. During every meeting there is the chance to learn about a different state in America. The community also goes on trips and outings together. Being part of this community has helped in the process of meeting new people and making friends.
When I have completed this course I hope to impart my knowledge within the Caribbean Hospitality & Tourism Sector. I will be able to understand the American visitors a little better thus more adequately catering to their needs. I will also be able to apply the principle of employee motivation. Another thing that I am anticipating is getting to know employees individually as each person reacts differently to various situations. I am ecstatic about getting started.
I want to thank the CHTA Education Foundation and Johnson and Wales for helping me on my road to success.
