Barbados Youth Rack Up CHTA Education Foundation Scholarships With Record-Setting 16 Recipients In 2010

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Aug. 16, 2010) - Barbados is poised to become a leader in the culinary arts thanks to the recent success of applicants to the CHTA Education Foundation (CHTAEF). The country received a record-setting 16 scholarships from the Foundation in conjunction with strong supporters of Caribbean youth development such as Starwood Hotel and Resorts Worldwide and FirstCaribbean International Bank.
“Barbados set a fine example for the rest of the Caribbean by mobilizing its youth to submit more applications for scholarship assistance than any other nation,” said Tom Pas, Chairman of the CHTAEF.

“There were only 19 applications for the personal development scholarship in the work experience area, and I am extremely proud to say that here in Barbados we submitted 17 of those,” noted Susan Springer, Executive Vice President of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA).
The majority of 2010 scholarship recipients in Barbados are employees of Hilton Barbados, including Gina Sealy, Angela Holland-Garroway, Kim Richards, Akem Cadogan, Ayisha Smith, Laura Agard, Darren Alleyne, Chrystal Burnett, Lasaunta Corbin, Rosemary Holder, Nakeisha Layne, Jamaal Moseley and Andre Nurse

Additional scholarship recipients included Lynn Daniel and Treisha Joseph from Accra Beach Hotel & Spa, as well as Christina Phillips from the Coral Beach Club.
In 2010, the CHTAEF awarded a total of US$145,000 in 44 scholarships after receiving 52 applications covering 15 Caribbean countries.
