CHTA and ASONAHORES Collaboration

Following a meeting on May 5, 2017, CHTA and ASONAHORES reached an agreement to work in conjunction on three primary initiatives that are priority for both organizations in the following year.

Data Sharing
ASONAHORES will make available to CHTA the primary research generated by their  Center of Tourism Information on topics covering tourism’s broad economic impact and linkages to various industries and areas of economic activity. CHTA in turn will share reports and presentations generated by its established data partners, including noted companies like STR, MasterCard, KPMG, ADARA, Travelzoo, the Caribbean Tourism Organization, the American Resort Development Association, and the World Travel and Tourism Council.

Energy Efficiency
CHTA will commence discussions with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) about the feasibility of conducting a third phase of CHENACT (Caribbean Hotels Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Action Program) including the Dominican Republic as one of the beneficiary countries to consider. CHENACT’s recently concluded its second phase which generated detailed investment grade audits of over 150 hotels, tools and guides to support greater efficiencies, and significant savings in electricity and water costs for participating hotels

Health Tourism
Recognizing the tremendous potential for the region to further develop health/medical tourism and the focus already given on this by several destinations, including the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Puerto Rico; further recognizing  a desire by the Dominican Republic to play a regional leadership role in evolving this growth industry; CHTA and ASONAHORES shall  develop a strategy for facilitating the development of medical tourism in the region.
