Galley Bay Resort and Spa World Wetland Day 2016

Galley Bay Resort and Spa celebrated World Wetland Day with a week’s worth of events to raise awareness of mangroves and wetlands in Antigua. The Eastern Caribbean Marine Management Areas Network was invited to Galley Bay Resort to do a display on the marine protected areas in Antigua and the conservation projects associated with it in commemoration of World Wetland Day. The project is part of a regional programme, ‘Climate Resilient Eastern Caribbean Marine Managed Areas Network’ (ECMMAN), which aims to improve management capacity within the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) for existing marine managed areas (MMAs) and to support the establishment of new MMAs.

he implementation of this project in Antigua and Barbuda is a collaborative effort between the Environmental Awareness Group (EAG) and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, through the Fisheries Division and the Environment Division. The first phase of this four-year project will run until mid-2016. Other countries participating in the regional programme are: Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia and St. Vincent & the Grenadines. Click here to view a presentation of the week’s events.
