The primary mandate of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association Education Foundation from its formation in 1986 has been to support education and training programs for the region’s hospitality and tourism industry.

For the last three decades, the Foundation has raises and distributed over US$2million for individual scholarships and training for the region’s nationals.

Today, in partnership with its corporate sponsors and with the generous support of the member hotels and allied partners of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association, the Foundation is embarking on a new chapter of on-island training courses to further the development of industry skills and training development in a series of one-day training courses in multiple disciplines.

Housekeeping – Preventing and Controlling the Spread of Infection for HOUSEKEEPING TEAM MEMBERS

This one-day session will focus on:

  • Overview and importance of preventing and/or controlling the spread of infection and the consequences of poor control
  • Characteristics, signs and symptoms of common infections found in hotels such as Norovirus and Cryptosporidium
  • Personal hygiene standards – personal cleanliness, handwashing, health and illness reporting
  • Cleaning, sanitation and chemical knowledge – practices in maintaining hygienic premises and equipment, chemical handling, dilutions, application times, storage and safe disposal
  • Infection control procedures – importance of a structured and systematic approach to infection control
  • Identifying the signs of a potential infection in the guest’s rooms
  • Illness reporting and monitoring
  • Cleaning and disinfection procedures during a suspected outbreak, including guest room cleaning
  • Handling and separation procedures for soiled linen or linen from a suspected area of infection

How to Motivate Your Team Through Effective Leadership   


This one-day session will focus on:

  • Understanding the complexity of leadership
  • The difference between managing and leading
  • The role of motivation in maintaining team morale
  • The organization as a system and the importance of culture
  • The “Psychological Contract”
  • “Action Centered” approach to leadership

Graduation Ceremony – Participants will be presented with a certificate to recognize the completion of the training workshop.
